The Mackie Cricket Club welcomes the release of the Mackie Road Reserve draft Masterplan today by Glen Eira City Council.
Mackie Road Reserve has been our home since the season of 1960-61 when the reserve was initially established, and we have been here now for over 60 seasons! Throughout that time we have witnessed many changes. The original 2 ovals and no pavilion of the early 60’s was the starting point and throughout the years facilities have moved and changed with our surrounding East Bentleigh suburb.
Mackie Cricket Club too has changed and evolved through the years. A record number of teams participated throughout season 2021-22 across senior men, women and junior teams. Three girls teams this past season shows how the needs of the broader community, and the clubs supporting them, continue to evolve. This draft Masterplan helps setup Mackie Road Reserve for the next 20 years of serving local families and residents.
Club President, John Tantram commented “The consultation and support of the council officers has been great. They listened to our perspective and have engaged us throughout this process to ensure they fully understand what the community members that Mackie Cricket Club serves require.”
Bringing the sporting facilities to a suitable standard for the 21st century is welcomed news. Change rooms that are female friendly will be a welcomed addition along with the opportunity to recognise and display our clubs proud history in a new pavilion.
The club looks forward to working with the Glen Eira City Council to ensure we can bring this draft Masterplan to life with appropriate detailed designs. We will also welcome engagement with State Government to ensure appropriate funding can be secured so this can be realised and transferred from paper.
